| George Edward Brackett
NORTHWOOD - George Edward Brackett of Northwood, NH died suddenly Monday, April 30, 2007, while working in Epsom. Mr. Brackett was born April 8, 1943, to Helen (Owen) Brackett and Robert Brackett in Boston, MA. He moved to Northwood with his family at the age of 8, and has lived there since. He graduated both Oyster River High School in Durham (1961) and Concord Commercial College. Mr. Brackett served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964-68, and was stationed in Okinawa. His love for the outdoors led to a 37-year career as a land surveyor, most recently for Joseph Wichert, LSS of Manchester. He was planning to retire this summer.
Mr. Brackett is survived by his adoring wife of 37 years, Roselyn Rae (Thisell) Brackett; his sisters Joan White of Strafford and Judith Brackett of Northwood; his son James Brackett of Evanston, IL; and his two-year-old granddaughter Emily Rae. He is remembered as a wonderful and devoted husband with a terrific sense of humor; a loving and supportive father; a caring and cherished brother; and a grandfather who doted with limitless affection on his adoring granddaughter. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first grandson in August.
Mr. Brackett was a lifelong sports enthusiast, excelling in a broad range of competitive sports, including basketball, baseball, table tennis, and golf. He was a star of the Oyster-River basketball team, winner of multiple table tennis tournaments, and a member of the NH Senior Olympics basketball team. Mr. Brackett also enjoyed fishing, particularly in Rangeley, ME, where he owned a cottage. Mr. Brackett had a very strong Christian faith and was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Northwood, where he had served as Eucharistic Minister and choir member.
