| Sylvia Brett Bennett
DOVER - Sylvia Bennett died Feb. 29, 2008. We remember Sylvia as a kind mother and talented artist and craftsperson.
Born Nov. 5, 1939, to Wesley and Helen Brett of Madbury, Sylvia was the second born of seven Brett children.
A bright and hardworking student, Sylvia graduated as valedictorian of her class at Oyster River High School. She went on to study art at the University of New Hampshire. Her education included one year of study abroad in Denmark. Sylvia earned a BA with magna cum laude honors from UNH. After graduating from college, Sylvia began a career as a graphic designer, working for McCalls in New York City.
In 1965, Sylvia and her husband, Richard Merk, started a family of their own. By 1968, they had three children.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1973. She was also predeceased by her sister, Leslie Brett, in 1992 and by her mother in 2007.
Sylvia is survived by her father, Wesley Brett of Madbury; her three children, son Carl Merk of Dover, daughter Nadia Merk of Dover, daughter Karen Brough and son-in-law John Brough of Dover; two grandchildren, Aiyana and Iain Brough; three brothers, Nicholas Brett of Fremont, Nathan Brett of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Carlton Brett of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Helen Kalagias of Rochester, and Laurie Diener of Hanover; five nephews, Jerry Marvin, Tim Brett, Michael Kalagias, Kenton Brett, and Sam Diener; three nieces, Julie Marvin, Caroline Brett, and Leanne Brett; and nine great grandnieces and nephews.
