ALTON BAY -
Michael Matthew Burke, 34, of Route 11-D, Alton Bay, died Wednesday June 29, 1994 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 2, 1959 in Rutland, Vt., the son of Matthew and Joyce (Haseltine) Burke, he moved to Durham at an early age.
He graduated from Oyster River High School in 1977 and was a graduate of the Thompson School of Applied Science and the University of
New Hampshire where he obtained a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in forest management.
He was employed by the New England Forestry Foundation as a consulting forester for the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
He served as the Carroll County tree farm chairman and was the state of New Hampshire tree farm chairman in 1991-92.
He served as a member of the Alton Conservation Commission, volunteered for the Parks and Recreation Commission and was the forester for the Town of Alton.
He was a member of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests and the New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association.
Survivors include: his wife Ann Norman-Burke of Alton Bay; his parents, Matthew and Joyce (Haseltine) Burke of Durham; two sisters, Terri O'Mara of Hamilton Square, N.J., and Ann Burke of Durham; two brothers, Timothy Burke of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Matthew Burke of Durham; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
