| Hubert Roland Cathcart
MADBURY - Hubert Roland "Rollie" Cathcart, 76, of Madbury, N.H. passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at his home following a brief illness. He was born in New Durham, NH on June 5, 1938, a son of Pauline (Laney) Cathcart of Lee, N.H. and the late Roland Hubert Cathcart. Rollie attended, and was a member of the first graduating class of Oyster River High School. He continued his education by attending the University of New Hampshire. Mr. Cathcart was employed by the U.S. Postal Service where he was a Service Clerk and Letter Carrier from 1957 to 1972. He was appointed as the Postmaster of Durham, N.H. in 1972 and held that position until his retirement in 1992. After his retirement from the Postal Service, Rollie went on to become a Master Oar Builder at the Durham Boat Company, putting the same loving care into crafting fine oars as he did with all of his extensive woodworking projects.
Rollie had many interests including reading, movies, woodworking, gardening,long walks in the woods and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. For his many interests, none were more important to him than a tremendous love for his wife and family. Nothing was too good and nowhere was too far to travel when it involved his family.
Besides his mother, Rollie is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Joanne (Sargent) Cathcart of Madbury, four daughters; Kimberly Cray and her husband Ken of Columbia, S.C.; Lisa Dreher and her husband John of Newmarket, N.H.; Kelley Cathcart and her husband Eric Bouchard of Plymouth, N.H. and Michelle Melvin and her husband Thomas of South Berwick, Maine. He is also survived by one brother, Paul Cathcart and his significant other Cheryl Hey of Dunbarton, N.H., and three sisters; Janis Cathcart of Lee, N.H.; Charon Dumont and her husband Randy of Lee, N.H.; and Margaret Whitney and her husband Karl of Kittery, Maine. Rollie was also the proud grandfather of Elysia Solich, Jaclyn Crouch, Stephanie Dreher, Ian Dreher, Brianna Bouchard and Nathaniel Melvin as well as a great-grandfather to 2 great-granddaughters and 3 great-grandsons. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins.
