New London, NH - Nancy Chase Lyon, 64, of Shaker Street, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at her home, after a sudden illness. She was born in Durham, NH on November 30, 1946, the daughter of Jeremiah and Jane (Woodbury) Chase. She graduated from UNH with a degree in Philosophy in 1968 and did graduate work in Political Science. Nancy lived in Goffstown, NH for 17 years before moving to New London in 1989. While in Goffstown she owned and operated Nancy Lyon Hand Weaving, which featured handmade clothing and wall hangings which were sent all over the country. The Company had up to 11 employees at one time. She was also a member of the NH League of Craftsmen and was President of the League from 1976 to 1978. When Nancy moved to New London she stopped her weaving company and began serious work in search and rescue as well as a personal interest in a variety of fabric related crafts such as fabric painting, crocheting and wall hangings. Nancy joined New England K9 Search and Rescue in 1988. NEK9SAR is an all volunteer organization and she was its President for 20 years. NEK9SAR has 12 dog team handlers and they work very closely with NH Fish and Game and VT State Police using search dogs to look for lost people. Nancy first became involved in the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust in 1993 and served on the Board for 9 years including a year as Chairman. She was actively involved for the past 18 years and was website designer, newsletter editor, PowerPoint creator and much, much more. Members of her family surviving include her husband of 43 years, Douglas W. Lyon of New London, NH; a brother, Robert Chase of Franconia, NH; nieces and nephews.
