Douglas Nickerson

DOVER - Douglas Nickerson, 67, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Riverside Rest Home in Dover.

Born March 18, 1946, he was the younger son of George E.R. Nickerson, Jr. and Dorothy Anne (Durfee) Nickerson Cilley. He was predeceased by his brother Randall (Randy) in 1964, his father in 1979, and his mother in 2004. He was also predeceased by his stepfather Herb Cilley whom his mother married in 1986. He is survived by a niece and her family, a number of cousins, and his stepbrothers, David and Dean Cilley, and his stepsister, Judith Kelsea, and their families.

A 1965 graduate of Oyster River High School in Durham, Doug had the soul of an artist and musician - trapped within the reality of schizophrenia which manifested in his late teens. He found a wonderful, supportive community at Riverside Rest Home where he enjoyed life as he spent his final years. His family expresses their deep gratitude to the staff of Riverside and the Office of Public Guardian who cared so lovingly for Doug.
