DURHAM — Paul McInerney Nicoloff, 44, died July 23, 1999 in Berkeley, Calif. by suicide after a long period of depressive illness. He was born Nov. 17, 1954, in Durham, the son of Marguerite M. and Philip L. Nicoloff. He was a graduate of Oyster River High School, attended the University of New Hampshire, and was a graduate of Boston University. He was known to many by his work as a cartoonist. Survivors include his parents of Durham; his son, Ryan Hagen, and Ryan’s mother, Cherie Hagen, of Methuen, Mass.; his five sisters, Lee Nicoloff of Portland, Maine, Elizabeth Baum of San Francisco, Calif., Ann Becker of Westwood, Mass., Martha Nicoloff of St. Paul, Minn.; and Emily Horning of McLean, Va.
