PORTLAND - Rebecca Ann Rouillard, a resident of Town Center Village retirement community, died unexpectedly on Jan. 4, 2014, at age 56, after a brief hospitalization.

A prolific reader and writer, her first published work was in a "Write Around Portland Anthology" in spring 2009. Her poems were also published in the 2011 and 2012 "Oasis Journals." Rouillard received a bachelor's degree from New England College. She was a VISTA volunteer before attending Western State University School of Law in San Diego. She later earned a master's degree in library science from San Jose State University. She worked at Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario before retiring in 2006.

Rouillard is survived by her mother, Carol Rouillard Wolff; and stepfather, Bernie Wolff. Her father, Rev. Lawrence Rouillard, died in 1983. She also leaves sisters, Shelley Rouillard of Sacramento, Calif., and Holly Johnson of Sarasota, Fla., and their families; and two stepbrothers and their families.
