STRATHAM - Michael J. Sakowski, 49, of Beech Court, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 3, 1955, in Kittery, Maine, a son of Mary (Rheault) Sakowski Dishman and the late John Sakowski. He resided in Durham for many years before moving to Stratham.
He was a 1973 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Dover, where he received the Paul Rielly Sportsmanship Award, and attended Stonehill College, North Easton, Mass.
He had owned the Ray F. MacDonald Insurance Agency in Durham since 1990, and had worked there since 1977.
He was very active on the Professional Insurance Agents Board for many years and was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents Association, an active board member and volunteer for Special Olympics, co-chairman of the Stratham Girls Softball League for many years, and an active alumnus of St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He was a member of the Great Bay Rotary and the Exeter Country Club and the co-director of the Stratham Fair Road Race for more than 20 years; he also volunteered for the New Hampshire Public Television Auction.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, skiing, hiking and outdoor activities. He was a devoted coach for many soccer, softball and basketball teams.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Pam (Rosencrans) Sakowski; two daughters, Kerri and Bridget Sakowski; his mother and stepfather, Mary and Robert Dishman of Durham; one sister, Marilynn Tanguay of Massachusetts; one brother, Steve Sakowski of Indiana; one brother-in-law, Eric Rosencrans of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
