Gregory Mark Sawyer

Gregory Mark Sawyer, 18, was born on May 6, 1952, and was a lifelong resident of Durham.  He resided on Spinney Lane.

He was a graduate of Oyster River High School, Class of 1970 and was to enter the University of New Hampshire to work for a major in chemistry.  He had been active in high school sports, and had played on the two State Champion Soccer teams from Oyster River High School.  He was president of the Outing Club of ORHS.  He arrived home at 6 pm Friday from a trip across the country.

The family includes his father, Albert K. and Marion (Stephenson) Sawyer; a sister, Mrs. Kathryn Sandstrom of Durham; three brothers, A. Kendell Sawyer Jr. of Oxen Hill, Md., David T. Sawyer, and Thomas P. Sawyer, both of Durham; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Helen F. Sawyer of Escondido, Calif.; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Harriet Stephenson of Camden, Maine; one nephew.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 4 pm at the Durham Community Church.  There are no visiting hours.

The Brisson and Kent Funeral Home, Newmarket is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gregory Sawyer Scholarship Fund in care of the Principle, Oyster River High School, Durham.


Funeral Notice

DURHAM -A memorial service was held Tuesday at 4 pm for Gregory Mark Sawyer at the Durham Community Church.  The Rev. Charles Gross and the Rev. Daniel Novotny participated in the service.

Dr. Gross read excerpts from recollections the youth collected in a recent trip across the country.  Wesley Meier, a graduate student from the University, presented new compositions accompanied by the guitar.

The ushers at the service were Paul Bamford, Paul Frick, Robert Bernard, Michael Brayton, A. Kendell Sawyer and David T. Sawyer.
